Sunday School Craft - Samuel Hears God. . .I Can Too!

Today's craft is about Samuel listening to God, but I wanted to make it personal for the kids.

Our little kids have already made those Pinterest "Listening Ears" headbands for this story about a year ago, so I didn't want to repeat it.

You will need: cardstock, scissors, glue, and crayons.

So, I have the templates attached at the end, but all you need to do is to print out however many heads you need, then divide that number by four and print out the ears. I got the clip art from Googling, but I added the verse and the words at the bottom.

I situated the ears so that you could use a paper cutter and make the least amount of cuts if you don't have a lot of time. But if you kids can handle scissors, just let them cut them out themselves.

Then, have them draw their own faces. (I accidentally wrote the directions for the teachers on my example before taking pictures. Sorry!)

Then, glue the ears on and have them write their names in the blanks.

Sunday School Craft - David and Jonathan Bow and Arrow

After Pinteresting a craft for David and Jonathan, and not really liking what I saw, I came up with this craft. The template is from different sources and pieced together, but it should make sense to you when you scroll down and look at it. Feel free to ask me questions if you have any.

So for this craft, you will need:

Cardstock, pipe cleaners, crayons, hole punch, scissors, and glue

Here is what the finished craft looks like:

Although the little creatures who "make" these crafts cannot read, I still think it's important to include key verses from the stories so that parents/caretakers can read them or look them up later. You never know, these crafts may get tossed into a corner to be found years later when the before toddler can now read. It may change his or her life. You never know. . .But God's Word never returns void, right?

The verse on the arrow is I Samuel 20:37 "Jonathan yelled out, 'Isn't the arrow farther out?'"

The verse on the bow is I Samuel 20:42 "Jonathan said, 'Go in peace! The two of us have vowed friendship in God's name, saying, "God will be the bond between me and you, and between my children and your children forever!"'"

It's a little messy, because I copied and pasted the bow and the arrow from different sources and they kept overlapping. This was the best editing job I could do in the time allotted. Anyways, you will need to cut all the pieces out separately and then glue them fronts to backs. You will notice in the picture that after I glued the pieces together, I colored them. Then, I punched a hole in the back end of the arrow and either end of the bow. I ran a pipe cleaner through all of the holes.

Sunday School Craft - David and Goliath Slingshot

I have recently taken a few more tasks on as church secretary. One of these tasks is to make the Sunday School lesson plans for the infants to 17 months and the 18 months to four-year-olds classes. This includes figuring out which Bible story they should learn. . .and what craft should go along with the story.

I have been really getting into this craft thing. . .making up my own and/or improvising on other peoples' ideas on Pinterest. I thought I should probably blog about them and include templates in an attempt to help other people in such situations, and to pay it forward--as it were.

For this craft you will need: cardstock paper, glue, pipe cleaners, crayons, scissors, hole punch, and round stickers.

Here is my David and Goliath craft:

I am proud of this one because I copied and pasted the slingshot body from another source, but modified it to make a slingshot that can be printed onto cardstock, cut out, folded in half, and glued. Listen, I realize that David's slingshot was probably just a strap of leather, but. . .this model of slingshot worked better for my crafty purposes.

I pasted part of I Samuel 17:47 onto the shaft of the slingshot which reads, ". . .The Lord rescues his people, but not with sword and spear. This is the Lord's battle. . ."

You will notice that I punched a hole in the top of the forks of each slingshot and attached a pipe cleaner. I then took two matching round stickers and fixed them into the center of each pipe cleaner to signify the first and only stone that David hurled and eventually took down the mighty giant, Goliath. The other four "stones" I stuck on the shaft.

Here is my slingshot template:

You will need to cut around the bodies of the slingshots, but don't cut through the section where they are attached, as you can use that part as your fold. Just make sure to cut away all the "string" part. You don't need that part.
