Sunday School Craft - David's Five Stones (with verse tag)

This is like. . .my third David vs. Goliath craft (actually. . .maybe my fourth). Anyways, it's because the same little kids are still in the class when I started making these and I don't want them to make the same craft twice! (We keep teaching kids from 2-4 the same select stories from the whole Bible in order, over and over, until they get to the next level. In case you were wondering!)

Today's craft: David's Five Stones

You will need: brown fabric (I used a roll of wreath burlap), jute (or regular string or yarn), stones (make sure your kids are at least three years old and won't put them in their mouths), scissors, cardstock, and single hole punch.

First, cut out your fabric (or wreath burlap) into squares. (You can do circles, but they take longer).

Print out the template at the end and cut the tags apart.

Punch the top corner of each tag.

Cut the string into however many pieces.

Let the kids select five stones and put them in the middle of each square.

Pull up the corners around the rocks.

Put a tag on a piece of string.

Tie the string around the little square of fabric! (Those stones are for photo aesthetics. . .There are five others inside the fabric! . . .Obviously!)

Sunday School Craft - David and Goliath Slingshot

I have recently taken a few more tasks on as church secretary. One of these tasks is to make the Sunday School lesson plans for the infants to 17 months and the 18 months to four-year-olds classes. This includes figuring out which Bible story they should learn. . .and what craft should go along with the story.

I have been really getting into this craft thing. . .making up my own and/or improvising on other peoples' ideas on Pinterest. I thought I should probably blog about them and include templates in an attempt to help other people in such situations, and to pay it forward--as it were.

Although the little creatures who "make" these crafts cannot read, I still think it's important to include key verses from the stories so that parents/caretakers can read them or look them up later. You never know, these crafts may get tossed into a corner to be found years later when the before toddler can now read. It may change his or her life. You never know. . .But God's Word never returns void, right?

For this craft you will need: cardstock paper, glue, pipe cleaners, crayons, scissors, hole punch, and round stickers.

Here is my David and Goliath craft:

I am proud of this one because I copied and pasted the slingshot body from another source, but modified it to make a slingshot that can be printed onto cardstock, cut out, folded in half, and glued. Listen, I realize that David's slingshot was probably just a strap of leather, but. . .this model of slingshot worked better for my crafty purposes.

I pasted part of I Samuel 17:47 onto the shaft of the slingshot which reads, ". . .The Lord rescues his people, but not with sword and spear. This is the Lord's battle. . ."

You will notice that I punched a hole in the top of the forks of each slingshot and attached a pipe cleaner. I then took two matching round stickers and fixed them into the center of each pipe cleaner to signify the first and only stone that David hurled and eventually took down the mighty giant, Goliath. The other four "stones" I stuck on the shaft.

Here is my slingshot template:

You will need to cut around the bodies of the slingshots, but don't cut through the section where they are attached, as you can use that part as your fold. Just make sure to cut away all the "string" part. You don't need that part.
