Turning a Prom Dress into a Maxi Skirt

I bought this dress at a Goodwill. It's 100% silk, so I couldn't pass it up! I got it home and the top of it was too tight and the bow on the back was OBNOXIOUS, so I decided to make it into a maxi skirt. If you want to do this project, all I added was a piece of medium weight stretchy jersey that was an inch or two smaller than my waist but could stretch over my hips. I didn't even add elastic!

  1. I had been thinking that Maxi dresses and skirts couldn't be too hard to make, so I stopped at Jo-Ann Fabrics to look what patterns and fabric were available. The selection and price didn't tempt me enough to give in though. I went to a thrift store with my parents and found a silk skirt too! But mine is wrap around...and just tight enough to make it uncomfortable to sit in for a whole sermon ) : I'll have to consider whether or not the stretchy jersey will be a solution for me too. Your skirt looks great!
