When a Garment is too Baggy....Add Darts.

This is a short post, and it's nothing earth shattering. I just wanted to show how to put darts in something.

I bought this dress off eBay from China. Sometimes, things from China DON'T look like the pictures AT ALL. Fortunately, you can tweak them if you know how.

Here is where the major tweakedge needed to happen. Notice how the back part looks like a sack and the dress has no real shape. That's where the darts needed to go.

To make darts, you literally just start pinching into and pinning the fabric until the fabric lies flat.

Note: the first dart is always a piece of cake. The trial is getting the dart on the other side to match! Make sure to measure and remeasure to make sure they are both the same distance from the back seam and the same length.

Done! (I know the fabric looks puckery, especially around that right shoulder area, but that's because the dress is kinda "bodycon" and the fabric is really stretchy and it kept catching on the dress form.)

Yay for a dress with shape!

Warming Up an Earmuff Headband

So, China is trying to put Etsy out of business for sure. I bought this earmuff headband on eBay for $2!!

Okay, enough about politics...When I received this headband, I really liked it, but it wasn't very warm. Not for me, at least. If my ears are cold, it's over.

I pinned it to some fuzzy blue fabric on the reverse side.

Then, I sewed the two together using a really long straight stitch. I would have done a zigzag, since the fabric is stretchy, but you would be able to see a zigzag from the top, and I wanted the stitches to be as invisible as possible.

See, you can barely tell.

Warmth!
